Event Planning
When I began working at the Ohio Environmental Council, I was specifically tasked with the planning and execution of the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year, the Green Gala. The Gala that I planned was celebrating the 50th anniversary of the organization. This experience equipped me with the skills necessary to pull off a major event, specifically one focused on fundraising. I made many cold calls, worked under the pressure of high-stake deadlines, had to keep a detailed record of donations, and so much more. Planning the Green Gala allowed for my organizational skills to excel and my communication skills to flourish. Whilst working on this event, I collaborated with several other departments—mainly the development and communications teams. Doing so helped me to discover my interest in the field of communications. The Gala took place in late November of 2019. The wrapping up of the event was meant to coincide with the end of my internship, but I was lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to continue my time at the OEC as a communications intern. Within the communications team, I was able to continue my help with events, but also expand my work towards professional writing, social media, and other PR-related tasks.
